Rideau Community Health Services (RCHS) Welcomes MP Michael Barrett for Site Visit Highlighting Community-Based Care

MERRICKVILLE, ON – Rideau Community Health Service’s Merrickville Site was pleased to welcome MP Michael Barrett for a site visit on April 20, offering an opportunity to highlight the vital role Community Health Centres (CHCs) play in delivering accessible, team-based care across the region.

The visit, supported by the Canadian Association of Community Health Centres, also included Executive Director, Iwo Effiong, along with members of the organization’s leadership team, staff, and Board of Directors.

During the visit, MP Barrett toured the Merrickville Health Centre, met with staff, and learned more about the many programs and services offered. Discussions focused on the importance of ensuring that individuals and families can access timely, high-quality care close to home.

Community Health Centres play a critical role in Ontario’s healthcare system by providing interdisciplinary, team-based care that addresses both medical needs and the broader social determinants of health. This approach is particularly important for individuals with more complex health and social needs, who may face barriers accessing traditional models of care.

“Visits like this are an important opportunity to share how Community Health Centres are supporting healthier communities through integrated, person-centred care,” said Michele Bellows, Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud of the work our team is doing every day to improve access and respond to the evolving needs of our communities.”

RCHS expressed its appreciation for the opportunity to showcase its work and to contribute to ongoing conversations about strengthening access to primary care and community-based services across the region.
