The Ontario Senior Dental Care Program (OSDCP) is a new publically funded dental program for low-income seniors.  Here are some commonly asked questions about the program.

What are the eligibility criteria?

  • Resident of Ontario, 65 years old and older
  • An annual net income of $19,300 (or if living as part of a couple, a combined annual net income of $32,300). If a senior does not have a social insurance number, or has not completed  taxes for the most recent year to confirm income eligibility, a guarantor form will be required
  • No access to any other form of dental benefits – private or government funded

What dental services are covered?

Once approved, clients will be eligible for examinations, radiographs, preventive services (including periodontal services), restorative services (including endodontic services), oral surgery, and anesthesia. Dentures are included in the list of eligible services as well, but the client will be required to provide a small co-payment for this service.

How do seniors apply?

Each senior must complete their own application (both members of a couple cannot use the same application). Applications are available online and in paper form. Even if applying online, seniors must print, sign, and mail a portion of the application before it is processed. Paper copies of the application may be obtained by calling the Health Unit at 1-800-660-5853 or Rideau Community Health Services at 613-283-1086 or toll-free 1-844-973-1400. Staff may assist seniors with the completion application forms by phone or in-person by appointment.

Who provides the dental services?

Dental treatment will be provided by dentists and dental hygienists in dental clinics at participating community health centres and public health offices. Seniors approved for the program will not be able to use their coverage at private dental offices. When program enrollment has been confirmed, clients may call Rideau Community Health Services at 613-283-1086 or toll-free 1-844-973-1400 to book an appointment.
