Media Message Related to the Free Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

Lanark Renfrew Health and Community Services is reminding community members that due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Community Volunteer Income Tax program in Lanark County was temporarily suspended March 16, 2020. On the advice of Public Health, our volunteers stopped providing income tax services at numerous Agency tax clinics and at Agency drop-off locations until further notice.

The good news is Canada Revenue Agency has extended the deadline for filing taxes until June 1, 2020. According to the Canada Revenue Agency website, benefits and credits will not be interrupted if taxes are filed by this date.

Our CVITP volunteers are eager to resume filing income tax returns as soon as they are given the green light.  For those who prefer not to wait for the free CVITP to resume, some taxpayers received an invitation letter in February from Canada Revenue Agency to use “File My Return”. This is a method of filing taxes using the telephone.

Updates on the resumption of the free CVITP will be published on the Lanark Community Programs web site at and in other various social media locations. Please stay tuned!!
