Smiths Falls Citizen Honored For Giving Over 30 Years to Creating Healthy Communities

Merrickville, June 3rd, 2013 - Rideau Community Health Services (serving Lanark, Leeds and Grenville since 1974) honours Ken Graham, who for over thirty years has been donating much of his time to improving local governance, environmental organizations, recreational services, and health and social services. Rideau Community Health Services (RCHS) is a community governed health and social service organization operating the Merrickville District and Smiths Falls Community Health Centres and Rideau Valley Diabetes Services.

Each year at its Annual General Meeting the Board of Directors of RCHS honours one individual for "outstanding contribution to our community". This year that honour goes to Ken Graham for his decades of service as a Smiths Falls Town Councillor and community volunteer. "When we think of what makes an individual or a community healthy we know that it is more than our doctors and nurses; it is a clean environment, good food, physical activity and opportunities for everyone to be included in the makeup of our society" said RCHS Board Chair, Pamela Blackstock. Blackstock noted "year after year, Ken's contribution of time and energy to a variety of public organizations has benefited young and old alike".

Examples of Mr. Graham's contributions include about 20 years as a Town of Smiths Falls Council Member, and as an active volunteer with the Rideau Environmental Action League, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, Lanark Leeds and Grenville Public Health Unit, TriCounty Addictions Services, Perth Smiths Falls Hospital and the Ontario Municipal Water Association to name a few. "Ken is a rare person who acts locally and thinks globally. He knows that you have to take care of the services that matter to people and at the same time contribute to reducing the negative impact we have on our environment", said Peter McKenna, Executive Director of RCHS.

Mr. Graham will be receiving this honour on Tuesday June 25th at the Smiths Falls Station Theatre, 53 Victoria Ave, Smiths Falls. The public are welcome. The RCHS Annual General Meeting commences at 7 p.m. and at 7.45 p.m. Ken will receive his honour. A reception with refreshments will follow.
